Cuban Cigars Partagas Brand:
If there is one particularly famous cigar factory within Havana, this is the Partagas Factory. You can find it at No. 520 Industria Road, just behind the Capitol building, in the heart of the city. The particular factory was opened in 1845 by Don Jaime Partagas and contains been making the cigars that will bear his name ever since. A Partagas is immediately recognizable by the deep, earthy flavour
Partagas come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The best known are the Serie D No. 4, the Lusitania and the 8-9-8, a cigar which is named after the way it is organized in its box.In 2005, it had been launched a new vitola in the brand name, which came to enlarge the Partagás Line Series: Serie P No.2. This vitola quickly is becoming in a preference Habano among the devoted admirers of the brand, characterized by the character and strength
Cuban Cigars Partagas Brand:
Partagás Cigars – a 170-year success story
Partagás is a name in the world of cigars that sends a shiver down the spine of every aficionado. And that in two ways, because there is not only the Cuban original, but also a Dominican offshoot. The more than 170-year history of these famous twins is wonderfully rich in anecdotes, both tragic and enchanting, and also a reflection of the eventful history of Cuba .
A Spanish boy in Cuba
The cigar is named after Jaime Partagás y Rabell , who was born in Catalonia in 1816. Jaime came to Cuba at the age of just 14 to train in the tobacco industry under fellow countryman Juan Cunill. The cigar business was booming, so the boy soon realized that he wanted to stand on his own two feet and earn money from making cigars. In 1845 he founded the Real Fábricas de Tabaco Partagás . Early on, Partagás decided to buy tobacco plantations in the then little-known regions of Vuelta Abajo and Semi Vuelta , which are now among the best tobacco-growing areas in the world. With this step, he wanted to cover the entire production chain and thus laid the foundation for the later success of his brand. With his mysterious death – various dates and causes of death are circulating on the internet – in the 1860s, a turbulent phase began, characterized by frequent changes of ownership. His son had neither the will nor the business talent, so the company passed into the hands of the industrialist José Bances. But due to economic turbulence at the beginning of the 20th century, Partagás was sold to José Fernandez and Ramón Cifuentes Llano – the latter also a well-known name in the cigar industry. Under the Cifuentes , Ramon’s sons and grandsons, Partagás experienced its greatest prosperity, even after the Cuban Revolution. Cifuentes refused to take over the management of the state tobacco industry and instead built up a new business in the Dominican Republic. The filler of the new Partagás , which came onto the market in 1977, now used tobacco from the Dominican Republic, the binder came from Mexico, and the wrapper leaves were made of Cameroon tobacco.
The World of the Partagás
Partagás is the cigar brand with the largest range of formats . Or at least it was. Since the tobacco giant ALTADIS bought into the Cuban parent company Habano SA, the brand has been thoroughly slimmed down and no more than a third of the original 95 vitolas remain – partly because they were machine-made varieties, partly because the less popular formats were not popular enough. But Partagás is still one of the most popular Habanos in the world. Some aficionados consider the Dalia to be the flagship of the Cuban variety – it is said that this cigar is one of the few that deserves the “full-bodied” award. As an introduction to the brand, however, the best double corona in Cuba , the Lusitania, can also be recommended. Spicy roasted aromas of coffee and cocoa mix with a slightly sweet note. The brand’s most popular model, the Serie D No. 4 , is a little stronger . This classic is the ideal end to a hearty meal. If you like it even stronger and at the same time elegant, you should try the Presidentes . The Figurado presents the well-known Partagás taste, characterized by an extremely strong, full-bodied tobacco that is rich in earthy flavors.
This accessory fits a Partagás
Of course, the enjoyment of a perfectly formed tasting cigar is the most important thing. But real connoisseurs also swear by the right accessories to put the icing on the cake after a good smoke . The original Partagás cutter is made from high-quality stainless steel and is suitable for cigars up to a ring gauge of 54. The cutter is a so-called “guillotine”, where the cigar is put through a hole in the middle of the cigar cutter and quickly beheaded. Guillotines are small and can therefore be carried around without any problems. A clean cut is also important , as this has a positive effect on the way the cigar burns while you smoke. Also recommended is the Partagás ashtray, which adds a stylish touch to smoking pleasure – after all, what smoker wants to hold their best (tobacco) piece in their hands for half an hour or three quarters of an hour? The Partagás 2011 ashtray was first presented at the XIII. Festival del Habano in Havana and offers space for four cigars. The good piece made of ceramic weighs a whopping 800 grams and thus guarantees safe stability. Its logo placed centrally in the bowl and the rich black varnish make this ashtray a classy eye-catcher .
